About Us

Who are we?

We are an enthusiastic group of volunteers dedicated to offering the experience and benefit of riding to adults and children with special needs.  Each week around fifty riders join us for the pleasure and the opportunity of learning a new skill.

What do we do?

Most things are possible!  The key to our success is a combination of people and ponies working together to fulfill dreams.  Over forty volunteers give time every week to assist riders to enjoy the freedom and therapeutic effects that riding brings. We hire our much appreciated horses and ponies from Almond Equestrian Ltd at Waterloo Lodge Farm and we also have Jet, the mechanical horse.

Where are we based?

Since Summer 2022 we have been located at Waterloo Lodge Farm on the Baggrave Hall Estate near Hungarton in Leicestershire.  (Please see our Location page for map and directions.)

Our history

The Group was formed in 1986 by some enthusiastic parents to provide an opportunity for riding to the pupils from the Mount Special Needs School in Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire.   With twelve volunteers and six borrowed ponies the children started riding on a Thursday afternoon.

We are now one of the most active groups in Leicestershire and have fifty riders each week from schools and day centres in Melton Mowbray, Oakham and  surrounding areas. Our future plans are to continue the invaluable work with disabled children and adults and to help them  achieve their  potential,  be it an enjoyable experience for them once a week, a therapeutic session or training for a Special Olympic ( learning disability) or Para (physical disability) competition; we will do our very best to help them achieve their dreams.

Our first Christmas and yes, we still like to decorate the ponies!
